Why does my family order in when I'm a professional cook?

I come home after a long shift at the restaurant, tired but ready to make a nice meal. My kids immediately ask for delivery pizza instead. It's like they don't care that I can cook better than any chain. My spouse just shrugs and says it's easier. I put so much heart into my job, but at home, it feels wasted. I tried teaching them simple recipes, but no interest. Sometimes I wonder why I bother cooking for them at all. It's just frustrating when your own family doesn't value what you do for a living.

My wife used to do the same thing until I realized she just wanted a break from restaurant-level meals. Like dylan_green58 said, sometimes they just want simple food that feels like a treat. I started keeping frozen pizzas and letting them pick one night a week for that, and it helped a lot.

Hey, have you asked them if it's about wanting a break from fancy food? I mean, maybe they see your cooking as work stuff and just want something simple.

Duh, sometimes a burger just beats beef Wellington.
