Took me 6 hours to figure out my new induction burner's magnet issue

Had four different pans that just sat there cold on the burner, and it turned out the magnetic field was too weak for anything under 5mm thick, has anyone else dealt with this specific problem or did I just buy a dud?

Man that sucks, six hours is brutal. My first induction burner had me doing the same dance with a cast iron pan that just would not get hot, turned out the bottom was a hair too thin even though it was supposedly "induction ready." Spent a whole afternoon testing every pan in the house with a fridge magnet like some kind of kitchen scientist. You definitely didn't buy a dud, just the weird secret handshake these burners need.

I get what you're saying but "six hours is brutal" feels like a bit much. You spent an afternoon testing pans with a magnet, that's like 20 minutes tops if you have more than a couple pans. The whole induction learning curve thing gets blown way out of proportion. People act like it's this huge ordeal when really you just need a pan with a flat bottom and some iron in it. Is it really that deep or are we just making it sound worse than it is? Are folks really losing that much sleep over cookware compatibility?
