That $90 digital meat thermometer lied to me for a month straight
Bought one of those fancy wifi probes back in March because the cable one kept dying on me. It read 145f on a pork shoulder that was clearly still raw in the middle. I pulled it early, served it, and three people got sick. Checked it against boiling water the next day, it was off by 12 degrees. Never trust a thermometer you haven't tested since day one. Has anyone else had a probe drift that bad without any warning signs?
Man that boiling water test is the only way to really know. Had a wireless probe do the exact same thing to me last summer, read 160 on a brisket flat that was still cold in the middle. Went back and forth with the company and they blamed me for not calibrating it, like you're supposed to know it drifts after a few weeks. Wound up tossing a $60 piece of meat and just went back to my old dial one that I check every single time now. Sorry about your guests, that's the worst feeling when you find out after the fact.
