My old head chef in Boston said to always salt the water for pasta like the sea. I thought it was a waste, but after a year of bland pasta, I finally tried it.

Oh man, my buddy made the same mistake. He used a tiny pinch for years. His first properly salted pot was a total shock, like he'd never tasted pasta before.

At least @wrenstone figured it out eventually, but I still think a heavy hand masks the pasta's own flavor.
