My immersion blender gave up on a 20-liter batch of tomato soup
It was last Friday during the big lunch push. I was blending the soup base and it just made a sad grinding noise and stopped. I had to pull out the old food mill and pass the whole batch through by hand, which took about 45 minutes. The motor housing felt really hot right before it quit. Has anyone else had a stick blender die mid-service, and what's a good heavy-duty brand that can handle volume?

Check the wattage on your next one, because that's a huge batch for most home models. The motor probably overheated trying to work through that much cold soup. You really need a commercial grade blender for that volume.

Get a commercial model with at least 500 watts for that much soup.

My neighbor blends 3 gallons of soup every Sunday with a $60 Oster from 2008... still runs fine. Wattage is a marketing thing, just let it rest between batches.
