Vent: That cheap RAM upgrade I tried fried my whole board
I bought a 4GB stick of DDR3 off Facebook Marketplace for $12 from some guy in Des Moines. He said it worked fine but I should have tested it first. Plugged it in, heard a pop, smelled smoke, and my old HP Pavilion never turned on again. Lost the whole computer, not just the $12. Now I know to only buy RAM from a store or at least test it with a spare rig before putting it in my main one. Anyone else get burned by sketchy used parts like this?

My ex took me for about two grand on a "business investment" before I figured it out. I mean, the worst part is you start questioning your own judgment after something like that, not just the other person. What helped me was making a hard rule for myself - never lend more than I can afford to just lose, and always get something in writing even with friends or family. It feels awkward at first but saved me a ton of headache later. Also, if someone gets defensive or pushy when you ask for terms or a timeline, that's a massive red flag right there. You'll bounce back from this, but idk, maybe let yourself be pissed off for a bit first before trying to fix anything.
