Thermal paste on a budget, this old-timer showed me up

At a salvage shop in Portland last month, this guy watched me grab a $3 tube of generic paste and laughed. Said he's been using the same $8 syringe for 9 years because he stores it in the fridge between jobs. He showed me his trick: warm the tube in your pocket for 10 minutes before applying, it spreads way thinner and you use half as much. Tried it on my buddy's old i5 rig, temps dropped 8 degrees versus my usual sloppy job. Anyone else got odd storage tricks for cheap parts that actually work?

Pocket trick is solid, I do the same with my cheap paste. Cold storage never crossed my mind but it makes sense.
