Showerthought: My old power supply finally died after 8 years, and a $20 fix kept it running
Last week my desktop started shutting down randomly. I almost bought a new PSU for $80, but then I remembered a trick from a forum 3 years ago. I opened it up, blew out a ton of dust with a can of compressed air, and swapped a bad capacitor for $0.50 from a junk board. It's been running fine for 5 days straight now. Has anyone else saved an old PSU just by cleaning it and replacing a single part?

$0.50 from a junk board" - I once fixed a microwave with a paperclip.

Fried a board once trying to solder a new capacitor. Looked like a bomb went off in my garage. Paperclip fix is way more impressive than my junk pile of burnt parts. Guess some folks just have the magic touch with electronics.
