Old PSU swap saved my gaming PC from crashing every hour

I had a 7-year-old power supply that started making my PC freeze mid-game like clockwork... swapped it for a $40 refurbished unit off Craigslist and now everything runs smooth again. What's the longest you've stretched a cheap part before replacing it?

dude that's wild, i feel you so hard on this. i had a corsair psu that just wouldn't die for like 6 years straight, i think it was haunted or something. finally swapped it out last year when the fan started sounding like a jet engine and my pc would shut down randomly during raids. honestly i bet half the issues people blame on gpus or cpus are just dying psus being silent killers. glad you got yours sorted without blowing anything up, cheap parts like that can be a total gamble but sometimes they pay off big time.

see i gotta push back a little here. i think the silent killer thing gets overblown honestly. yeah psus can fail bad but ive seen way more people fry their whole build by cheaping out on a sketchy unit than i have seen a quality one cause issues. my brother ran a diablotek psu for years, a literal fire hazard, and it never once gave him any trouble. low end parts can be a total crapshoot but sometimes its just confirmation bias making people think every random crash is the psu's fault when its really just windows being windows or ram timings being off.
