My buddy laughed at my thermal paste application and I had to redo the whole thing

I was bragging about repasting my old gaming PC with a $5 tube from Micro Center and my friend pointed out my blob looked like a toddler did it. He said 'you're supposed to spread it thin, not make a pancake.' So I cleaned it off with some coffee filter and isopropyl, did a pea-sized drop instead, and my temps dropped 15 degrees under load. Has anyone else had a friend call them out on a dumb mistake that actually saved their hardware?

Did you see that Gamers Nexus video where they tested paste application methods? They showed that pea size actually works just as well as spreading it perfect if you have enough mounting pressure. Your buddy probably saved you from a future thermal throttle nightmare.

I blasted Arctic Silver on my 980 Ti like a glue gun and fried a capacitor.
