I used to think thermal paste was just snake oil for beginners
For like 2 years I just used whatever paste came pre-applied on coolers and figured the expensive stuff was a scam. My buddy kept telling me to grab a $8 tube of Arctic MX-4 instead of using the stock stuff. I finally tried it last month when I was rebuilding my old gaming rig with a Ryzen 3600. Dropped my CPU temps by almost 10 degrees C under load compared to the stock paste that was probably dried out. Still not convinced you need the $30 liquid metal stuff but a decent $8 tube absolutely makes a difference. Has anyone else had good luck with a specific cheap paste or am I just lucky?

Same thing happened to me with my last build, the Arctic stuff is hard to beat for the price.

Wait, are you talking about the Arctic Freezer line or their case fans? Because I had their Freezer 34 eSports Duo and it kept my Ryzen 5 way cooler than I expected for like 40 bucks. The mounting was a bit of a pain though, not gonna lie. Still, for that price you can't really complain.
