Cheap replacement laptop fan vs. pulling the heatsink off and greasing it myself
My fan started grinding last week so I was about to drop $18 on a new one, but a guy on YouTube said 9 times out of 10 it's just dry bearings and a $4 tube of lithium grease fixes it. Pulled the heatsink, greased the spindle, and it's been quiet for 5 days now, anyone else had one actually die on them after doing this?
just dry bearings" is spot on, I did the same thing on an old Toshiba and it ran quiet for almost a year before I finally replaced it. Haven't had one actually die on me yet, so I'd say you're good.
