Tripped over a shop vac cord and pulled 20 feet of carpet loose

Was doing a bedroom in an old house over near Elm Street last Tuesday. Had the power stretcher set up perfect, went to grab my knee kicker and my boot caught the cord. Pulled the whole stretch job back about 20 feet into a wrinkled mess. Ended up having to re-stretch the whole room from scratch while the homeowner watched through the doorway. Anyone else ever have a simple trip turn into an extra hour of work?

Oh goodness, that's a rough one. Actually I think you probably used a power stretcher and knee kicker on carpet, not a shop vac - those vacuums don't have power stretchers attached to them.

Was the carpet old and brittle or did it hold up alright when you restretched it? I've had older carpet tear on me when it gets pulled back like that. @tessa_roberts1 knows what I mean about those power stretcher setups going south fast.
