School renovation wants eco-friendly carpet, any installation pointers?

We're redoing the floors in a community school that's big on being green. They picked carpet tiles with recycled backing (haven't worked with those much) and need low-VOC adhesives. What's the best way to handle these materials to avoid issues during installation?

Trying to be eco-friendly always seems to mean the instructions are written in some secret code, doesn't it. Those recycled backings can be weirdly stiff or have a memory, so you gotta let them relax in the room forever first. And good luck finding that low-VOC adhesive that actually wants to stick to anything for more than a week. Bet you'll be breathing so clean you'll forget how to curse when a tile won't line up.

My friend Mark tried installing eco-friendly laminate in his living room last year. The recycled padding was so stubborn it kept rolling back on itself like a sleeping bag. He followed the vague instructions and let it sit for four full days, but the edges still wouldn't lay flat. That special green adhesive he bought barely held anything, a few planks came up when his dog walked over them. He finally ripped it all out and used standard stuff, saying the project added ten years to his age.
