I think seam sealing is way overrated

I was working a 12x15 bedroom in a house near Austin last Tuesday and decided to skip the seam sealer on a tight seam between two pieces of nylon carpet. The homeowner watched me like a hawk but the seam turned out flat and invisible with no edge fraying. Am I the only one who thinks we push seam sealer too hard?

What type of backing was on that nylon carpet? Some of the newer backings with the latex and fiberglass combo seem to bond way better than the old stuff. Curious if you notice a difference on the glue-down jobs versus the stretch-in stuff.

Bond way better than the old stuff" seems like a lot of pressure to put on some glue, @amygonzalez. It's carpet, not a space shuttle re-entry.
