Hit 10,000 square feet of carpet laid in my first year solo

I kept a log and when I added it up last week, the number really got me. It's way more than I thought I could handle after leaving the big company. Anyone else track their square footage and get surprised by the total?

Always thought tracking was pointless but seeing the total would probably change my mind.

Seeing the total would probably change your mind" - yeah it DEFINITELY would. People don't realize that tracking isn't about feeling bad about a low number, it's about SEEING the reality so you can actually IMPROVE. You don't know what you're doing until you measure it. I started tracking just my active work time last year and it was brutal at first - some weeks I was only putting in 15 hours of actual labor. But that data forced me to cut out the wasted time on phone scrolling and looking for tools. Now my weekly totals are way higher and my projects move faster. The number doesn't lie to you, and that honesty is what makes you better.

Tracking your square footage is smart. I tried that once and had to stop because my first month's total was so low it was just depressing. My big project was a 200 sq ft bathroom and I spent three days on it.
