Bought a cheap knee kicker from a discount site and it cost me a whole day

I needed a spare knee kicker for a big job in a two story house last month. Saw one online for about half the price of my usual brand and figured it was worth a shot. The thing showed up, and the teeth on the head were so soft they bent on the first pull. I spent more time trying to fix it than using it, and the carpet stretch was just not right. Had to stop, drive to the supply house, and buy a good one to finish. That cheap tool cost me over $400 in lost time, easy. Has anyone else been burned by a tool that just fell apart right away?

My uncle ran a flooring crew for twenty years and he always said the cheap tools are a tax on being in a hurry. I mean, you look at that price and your brain just skips over the part where a bad tool can wreck the material you're working on. It's not just about the tool breaking, it's about the carpet you might have to replace because the stretch was off. Idk, maybe it's just me but that hidden cost scares me more than wasting a day.

But sometimes the cheap one gets the job done just fine.
