Appreciation post: Old timer taught me a better seam rolling trick in Denver
I was doing a big commercial job in Denver last month, hallways and offices. An older installer stopped by to chat and saw me struggling with a seam that just wouldn't lay flat. He pulled out a simple rubber mallet and tapped the seam lightly before using the roller. Said the vibration helps the glue grab better, and he wasn't wrong. That one tip saved me from redoing three seams on that job. Has anyone else run into little tricks like that from someone who's been in the game a while?

Wait, you're saying tapping with a mallet somehow magically fixes adhesion? If the glue is already spread and the seam's laid, vibration just shakes the joint loose - sounds like a good way to create more problems than you solve.

Wait, have you actually tried it with fresh glue though...? I had a seam that kept lifting on a coffee table top and tapping with a rubber mallet along the joint actually pushed the glue back into the gap and helped it grab. It's not about shaking things loose, more like settling the pieces together tighter if you do it right after clamping. I've seen it save a couple of my own projects where I thought I'd have to redo the whole thing. Definitely gotta be careful though, too hard and you'll dent the wood or crack a thin piece.
