An old installer in Omaha told me to stop cutting carpet padding short at the walls
I was helping a guy named Ray on a job in Omaha and he watched me trim padding tight to the tack strip on every wall. He stopped me and said the padding needs to run up and over the tackless strip, otherwise the carpet rubs the raw wood edge and wears through fast. I had been doing it my way for 3 years and never thought twice about it. We pulled a corner back on a job he did 5 years ago and the padding was still tucked up over the strip, no wear marks at all. Do any of you run padding over the strip like that, or do you still trim it flush?
