A guy in Portland watched me stretch a Berber for 20 minutes and asked why I never kick the seams
I switched to using a carpet tractor on every seam after he pointed out my knee kicker was bouncing off the tack strip and leaving 1/4 inch gaps that showed up a month later, so now I want to know if anyone else has ditched the knee kicker for good or if that's just a West Coast thing.

Been running a tractor on seams for about three years now after a similar deal. Had a stretch in a basement that looked fine on day one, then the homeowner called me back six weeks later and you could see every seam line. Knee kicker just was not grabbing the way it should on that pad. Now I run the tractor on the seam, then go back with the kicker just to tuck into the tack strip. Takes a bit longer but I have not had a callback since. Crew guys still give me grief about it but they shut up when the seams hold.
