A customer told me my seams were too tight and I brushed him off at first

Guy had been in the business for 30 years, said I was stretching the carpet so hard it would pull apart in 6 months. I thought he was just being picky until I got a callback on a job I did in March where the seam split right down the middle. Now I leave just a tiny bit more slack and use a seam iron at 125 degrees instead of cranking it to 150. Has anyone else had an old timer call them out on something that ended up being totally right?

Nah, hot seams never gave me problems, 150 is just fine if your prep work is solid.

Yeah the seam iron temp thing is huge, I used to crank mine to 150 too cause I thought hot was better. Dropping it to around 125 like you said made a world of difference for me, seams hold way better without that brittle split. Old timer advice stings in the moment but it's usually dead on once you see the results.
