Stopped by the old hardware store in my hometown and saw something that hit different
They cleared out the whole wood section and replaced it with a wall of those flat-pack furniture kits. I remember going there with my dad in the 90s to pick out real oak planks for a bookcase. Does anyone else miss when a hardware store actually felt like a place for building things?

My local garden center just swapped all their seed packets for those pre-made patio kits. It feels like every store is turning into a showroom for stuff you just assemble, not make. The actual parts and pieces are getting harder to find.

Yeah, that shift to pre-made kits is everywhere. I started looking for local seed swaps and buying direct from small online nurseries, which worked way better. You just have to skip the big stores now.

Wait, so they just cleared out all the seed racks entirely? That's wild. What are people supposed to do if they want to actually grow something from scratch instead of just plopping a ready-made thing in a pot? I get why a store would push the easy stuff, but it feels like they're forgetting half their customers actually want to start from the dirt up. Are they at least keeping the soil and tools section stocked, or is that headed for the clearance aisle too?
