Realized I'd been marking studs wrong for years after a drywall guy pointed it out
Been framing since 2011, mostly small additions and basement jobs in Dayton. I always marked my stud locations at 16 inches on center but I'd put the mark right in the middle of the stud face. Last Tuesday I had a drywall contractor over to bid on a big rec room and he just stopped, looked at my layout, and asked why my marks were centered. He said pros mark the edge so the sheet lands exactly on the plumb line, saves cutting. I felt like an idiot honestly. All these years I've been making the guys re-measure every sheet or live with gaps. Has anyone else had that moment where a simple thing like a pencil mark turned out to be the whole problem? How do you guys mark your layout so it's clear for the finishers?
