Overheard a guy at the lumber yard complaining about plywood prices

He said he was paying $75 a sheet for 3/4" sanded plywood at Home Depot, which seemed high to me. Has anyone found a better deal locally or is that just the new normal?

I paid $82 a sheet for that same 3/4" sanded plywood at Home Depot just last month for a bookshelf project and I almost choked. My buddy who runs a small cabinet shop swears by the local lumber yard on 5th Street, he said they were around $68 a sheet last time he stocked up. That is a big difference when you need a dozen sheets or more. I drive past the big box stores now just to check the smaller places first, even if it takes a little longer. Your mileage may vary depending on the species too, the birch stuff is always more expensive than the regular pine.

Swear to god, I think Home Depot just charges extra for the privilege of walking through those giant orange doors. Bet that local yard doesn't have a garden center blasting pop music at you either.
