Last Tuesday's framing job taught me a ladder lesson

We were setting rafters on a 12/12 pitch outside Boise and I kept hauling my 6' step ladder up and down the ridge. Took me 25 extra minutes just moving it. My foreman Larry finally said, just leave it below and use the roof ladder hooks. Swapped to a 4' step stool on the deck and it worked way better. Felt stupid for fighting gravity all morning. Anyone else got a simple rig trick they wish they learned sooner?

Man, that hit close to home. I used to swear by hauling my 6 footer everywhere too, thought it was just part of the job, you know? Then one day I watched a guy nail up a whole fascia line using nothing but a couple of saw horses and a plank. Felt like an idiot for carrying that ladder up three flights of stairs for a 20 minute task. Now I stop and ask if I actually need the reach before I grab it. It's amazing how much time you save when you stop fighting the simple stuff.
