I thought those magnetic stud finders were just cheap junk

For years I only used the fancy electronic ones, thinking the little magnets were a gimmick. Then I was working on a 1920s house in Tacoma and my digital finder kept going crazy on the old plaster. My partner handed me his $15 magnetic one and it snapped right onto every nail head. I've had one in my pouch ever since. Anyone else find a simple tool that won you over?

My old house in Portland had the same plaster problem. That little magnet saved me a ton of frustration.
