Foreman in Tulsa said my miter saw cut list was backwards, saved me $600 in trim
Last spring I was trimming out a 2,400 sq ft house in Tulsa and I had my cut list all planned out, running long pieces first like I always do. The foreman looked at my list and said 'You're cutting your longest runs from your shortest boards, flip the order or you're buying new trim.' I argued for a minute but he walked me through it, turns out I was measuring each room separate and not nesting the cuts, so I was wasting about 15% of every stick. We flipped the list, nested the cuts by length, and I saved 11 pieces of 16 ft crown that day alone, which at $18 a stick is real money. Now I plan every cut list backwards from the longest piece first and check my offcuts against the next room before I make a single cut. Anyone else ever have a guy catch a habit you didn't even know you had?
