Ever since a framing job in Phoenix last July, I won't touch a nail gun without a full face shield

Guy next to me hit a knot and a piece of nail sheared off right into his cheekbone, you could see the blood through his safety glasses, so has anyone else had a close call that made you upgrade your PPE?

My buddy Dave had almost the exact same thing happen to him on a job outside Austin a couple years ago. He was shooting nails into some old cedar and a piece of the nail ricocheted back and lodged right in his safety glasses lens, spiderwebbed the whole thing. He didn't even feel it hit him but when he took the glasses off there was a perfect little chip in the glass where the metal hit. That scared him so bad he went and bought a full face shield the same day and now he looks like he's about to weld something every time he touches a nail gun. I still give him crap about it but honestly after hearing what happened to that guy you mentioned I get it. Your buddy was lucky that piece went into his cheekbone and not his eye.

First day on a framing crew I saw a guy take a nail through his palm.
