After 8 years I finally learned not to over-tighten my chisel handles

Last week I snapped a chisel handle clean off because I'd been cranking it down like a gorilla every time it loosened up. A older guy on a jobsite in Portland pointed out that a little rattle is normal and actually helps the blade seat properly. Anyone else go years doing something basic the hard way?

The thing about the blade seating properly is a little off. A loose handle actually lets the tang bounce around inside, which can crack the ferrule over time. Snug is fine, just don't torque it like you're tightening a wheel nut.

Wonder if a little bit of wax on the tang threads would help dampen that vibration.
