Unpopular opinion: My worst week at work was the one that made me stay in nursing
Last month, I had three night shifts in a row where every patient was in a bad way, and I felt like I was just putting out fires. On the third night, a family member pulled me aside and said, 'You're the only one who keeps checking on him.' That simple comment, after 72 hours of feeling beat, flipped a switch for me. It made me see that the hard parts are where you actually matter most. Has anyone else had a rough patch that made you stick with your job, not leave it?

Three night shifts in a row with every patient in a bad way? That sounds completely brutal. I can't even imagine the level of tired you must have been, physically and mentally. Going through that gauntlet and still being the one a family member notices for checking in is wild. That's the kind of week that would break most people, not lock them in.

Honestly those weeks are what make you a real nurse.

That's a really powerful story. @troy996 is right, that sounds like it would break a person. What was going through your head in the hours right before that family member talked to you? Were you just running on autopilot?
