Unpopular opinion: I took the lower-paying job offer and it was the right call

I had to choose between a supervisor role at a huge, fast-paced distribution center or a lead position at a smaller, local warehouse for about $8,000 less a year. I picked the smaller place, and the better work-life balance has been worth every penny. Has anyone else made a similar trade-off for their sanity?

That $8,000 a year is a car payment, a real vacation, or a big chunk of student loans. In a supervisor role you build skills that let you jump to a much higher salary later, so short term pain for long term gain. I watched my friend grind in a tough job for two years and then get a 30% raise by leaving, which he never could have done from the smaller spot. Sometimes you have to push through the hard part to get to the easier life later on.

But what if the burnout hits before the payoff?

Man, this reminds me of a buddy I had who turned down a management gig at a big retail chain to stay at a mom-and-pop store making less... he got laid off six months later anyway when the small place went under. Not saying that'll happen to you, just wild how things shake out sometimes.
