Told my manager about a missed deadline, now they want a 20 page review

In Dallas last month I owned up to missing a client deliverable by 3 days, thought honesty was the play. Now they want a full written breakdown of every choice I made, but the other guy who hid his mistake just got a promotion. Which approach actually works out better long term, owning it or covering it?

Used to think covering up was smarter, but watching you get buried in paperwork changed my mind... honesty still wins.

Honesty still wins" huh... I used to think hiding stuff was the way too, but watching you get drowned in a 20 page review definitely changed my mind.
