The old boss I had back in 2015 vs running my own crew now is night and day

Back then my boss would just yell at us if a couch didn't fit through a doorway, but now I spend 20 minutes with the tape measure before even lifting anything (saves so much hassle). Is it normal for management styles to change this drastically over a decade, or did I just have a bad one?

Sounds like you just had a bad boss. Old school yelling doesn't teach anyone anything. Taking 20 minutes to measure is just being smart. I've seen too many guys try to force stuff and wreck a doorway.

Totally, had one boss who made me re-cut a board three times because he wouldn't let me measure twice.
