Rant: That one coworker who said "just wing the presentation" nearly cost me a promotion

Mark from accounting told me to stop over-preparing and just speak from the heart before my quarterly review last month. I followed his advice and blanked out for a solid 20 seconds in front of the VP - has anyone else had a colleague steer them totally wrong like that?
