Pulled the fire alarm at my first job, zero regrets about how I handled it

Back in 2016 I was working as a stock clerk at a Target in Columbus, Ohio. A pallet of paint thinner tipped over near the break room and started smoking, so I hit the pull station without asking my manager. The fire department showed up in 8 minutes, cleared the building, and my supervisor was pissed but the district guy actually backed me up because the sensor logs showed real heat. Has anyone else ever had to make that kind of split-second call when your boss would have hesitated?

Respectfully, pulling that alarm was still the wrong move in my book. You bypassed a chain of command that exists exactly for moments like this, and a manager can kill the power or isolate the area way faster than an entire store evac. Good that the sensors backed you up, but you got lucky, and that kind of call without a heads up gets people fired for a reason.
