Just realized my resume format was getting auto-rejected by bots

After 30 applications with zero callbacks, I ran mine through a free parser tool and found it couldn't read half my bullet points. Switched to a plain text layout and got 3 interviews within 2 weeks. Has anyone else had their fancy templates screw them over?

The worst part is people think they're being clever with those fancy templates. My buddy spent three hours getting his to look like a magazine spread with columns and icons and whatnot. Ran it through the same parser and it came out as gibberish because the software just reads left to right in a straight line. He ended up just copying his info into a plain text email for one application and got a call back the next day. So basically all those hours designing a "professional" layout just made him look invisible to the machines that actually decide who gets seen. I keep telling people: the robots are the ones you gotta impress first, not the humans.

Just a good design still works if you keep the text simple and readable for the machines too.
