HR lady told me "don't stay at one job more than 3 years" and it got me thinking

I was grabbing coffee at the office last Tuesday and overheard our HR director telling a new hire that staying past 3 years at any company is a bad career move. She said your salary growth caps out and you lose negotiating power. But here's the thing - I've been at my current place for almost 6 years now and I've gotten three promotions, went from 42k to 68k, and I actually like my team. Not every company works the same, right? Has anyone else stayed long term and still come out ahead?

That HR lady's point about losing negotiating power after 3 years is a real concern, but your situation proves it depends on the company. You got real promotions and a 26k raise which is way better than job hopping every few years if you ask me. If you're still growing and like the team, ignore the generic advice and stick with what works for you.

My last company tried that whole "you lose leverage" thing on me after 4 years. I had a competing offer in hand and they matched it plus 10k more in two days. Just have your resume ready and know what you're worth.

Hold up, is losing negotiating power after 3 years really that big of a deal? Seems like if you can actually prove your value with results, most companies won't care how long you've been there.
