Hit 500 applications submitted today and only 12 interviews to show for it
I've been tracking every single job application since January and seeing that 500 number really put into perspective how much time I've spent writing cover letters for roles I probably wasn't even qualified for, has anyone else tracked their numbers and found a shocking ratio like that?

Hitting 500 is a gut punch for sure. What actually helped me break that cycle was switching to a completely different strategy. Started treating my resume like a billboard for one specific problem I solved instead of a life story. Also found that applying within the first 48 hours of a job posting made a massive difference in response rates. Cold applying to 500 is basically playing the lottery but with your time and energy. Spend that time reaching out to people at companies you actually want to work for instead. Got my last two jobs from people I messaged on LinkedIn, not from a job board.

500 apps and 12 interviews is brutal but honestly pretty standard for cold applying these days. I was around 300 apps with like 8 interviews before I snapped and changed everything. Started only applying to jobs posted in the last 48 hours and spent that saved time going through my LinkedIn connections to see who worked at companies I wanted. Sent maybe 30 personalized messages just asking about their team culture and got 4 referrals out of it. Those 4 referrals turned into 3 interviews and 1 offer within 6 weeks. Job boards are fine but they should be like 20% of your effort max.
