Everybody says start with a desk job but I think they're dead wrong

I tried going the office route back in 2019 after my uncle kept telling me I needed a real career. Lasted about 8 months before I totally burned out sitting in a cubicle doing data entry for some insurance company in Atlanta. Hated every second of it so I quit and started installing floors on my own for cash. Three years later I'm making more money and actually don't dread waking up. Anybody else ditch the corporate track for something hands on?

...till I don't get why everybody acts like it was prison or something. I mean yeah data entry sucks and cubicles aren't great but it's not like they chained you to the desk with handcuffs. Some people just don't handle boredom well and that's fine but "burned out" from typing numbers into a spreadsheet? Come on man. You quit and started working with your hands and that worked out for you great. But acting like a desk job is some kind of soul crushing nightmare seems a little dramatic. Are you really gonna tell me installing floors is stress free with customers and deadlines and all that?

That "hated every second of it" bit hit hard, same here.
