Appreciation post: the moment my grooming table collapsed mid haircut

I was at my shop in Portland last Thursday working on a anxious poodle mix when the hydraulic arm on my table just gave out halfway through the back legs. Dog went sliding off sideways into a pile of towels and I had to finish the whole groom sitting on the floor with clipper oil all over my jeans. Has anyone else had a tool fail at the worst possible time and how did you handle the cleanup?

Check those thumb screws every single time.

That hydraulic failure is wild, but what gets me is how many of us don't check the safety locks on those tables before we start. I've seen three grooms in my circle have near misses because the arm just gave way with no warning. Time to add a quick thumb screw check to my setup routine before every big groom.
