I Thought Car Bubbles Were Overpriced Hype Until My Uncle's 1987 Buick Sat Outside in Ohio
I always figured those inflatable car bubbles were just a way to separate guys from $400, so I kept my dad's 1987 Buick Grand National under a cheap tarp in my driveway in Columbus. After one winter that tarp trapped moisture and I found surface rust starting on the rear quarter, I finally broke down and bought a $350 bubble from a guy on Craigslist. Six months later the paint still looks the same as the day it went in, and I checked the humidity with a $12 gauge that read 45% the whole time while the outside air was hitting 90%. The blower does hum a bit and I had to run an extension cord across the lawn, but the car stayed dry through two big storms in April. Now I'm second-guessing the tarp on my daily driver too. Has anyone here run a bubble through a full winter up north, and did the motor hold up or die on you?
