I thought a $140 car cover was a scam until my paint started going bad in Phoenix
Two summers back I parked my truck outside because my garage was full of junk, and by June the hood was chalky and the clearcoat on the roof started peeling in sheets. I figured a cover was just something people buy to feel better about leaving a car out, so I skipped it for a year and paid for it. Then a neighbor down the street in Phoenix told me he'd watched his own paint die the same way and dropped about $140 on a decent fitted cover with a soft inner lining. I finally bought one in April and pulled it off last week after a dust storm. The paint was fine under it, no new fading, and the inside stayed dry even through monsoon rain. My only gripe is you have to let the car cool down before you put it on or the cover traps heat, and the straps rattle a bit at highway speed if you don't tuck them. If you store anything outside in a hot climate, do you cover it or just accept the fade and hope for the best?
