Warning: my $180 camp stove died on night 2 at Glacier and I cooked on wet rocks
Bought a cheap two burner stove last spring and it quit on the second night of a 4 day trip at Glacier last month. The igniter clicked but nothing lit, and the gas line had a leak at the fitting so I smelled propane the whole first evening and just ignored it. I boiled water on wet rocks over a fire I barely got going in the rain and ate cold beans straight from the can for two breakfasts. Tried tightening the fitting with my Leatherman but the seal was shot and I wasn't about to risk a flare up inside my tent. Now I want to know, does anyone actually test gear at home before a trip, or do we all just trust the box and find out the hard way?
