That guy at the REI return counter changed how I pack

Last summer in Denver, I watched this older hiker return a tent that was clearly 5 years old just because a zipper stuck. He told the clerk 'if they don't stand behind it, why buy it?' and I realized I've been babying my gear way too much. Anyone else ever feel like you're not using your stuff hard enough?

That old timer had it right about REI's return policy.

Spencer, you just reminded me of this guy I knew who tried to return a half-eaten bag of trail mix to REI because he didn't like the texture. The cashier just stared at him for like ten seconds straight.

And @james672, the trick is to bring it back fully sealed... cashiers don't even blink if the package looks untouched. That's the move I learned after my own awkward return attempt.
