Ran into a guy at REI who roasted my 20 year old tent on the spot

I was in the REI in Portland last weekend looking at new sleeping bags when this older dude walks up and points at my tent that was poking out of my pack. He straight up says "you still using that 2002 model?" Then he spent like 10 minutes explaining why the newer poles are way stronger and won't snap in wind like mine did two summers ago. Has anyone else had a random stranger at a store call out your gear like that?

I got yelled at by a guy in a Home Depot parking lot for wearing work boots that were two years old.

Two years? That's not even broken in yet. I've had the same pair of Red Wings for five years and they still look better than half the new stuff people buy. Some people just need something to complain about, I guess. Was the guy wearing brand new boots or just had nothing better to do with his time?
