Met a guy at REI who changed how I pack my tent

I was at the REI in Denver last month and this older hiker named Dave stopped me. He said "you're stuffing that rainfly wrong, you'll tear the seam tape." Showed me the military roll method right there in the aisle. Has anyone else had a random stranger's tip actually save your gear?

Military roll or not, it's always a guy named Dave with that kind of unsolicited advice, isn't it?

Read some survival blog that claimed the military tuck works because it gives you better core access or something. Still just seems like a weird flex from someone named Dave.
