Hit 50 campsites on my check-in app last weekend and it made me realize I've been buying the wrong tent stakes this whole time

I counted up 47 trips where I fought with cheap plastic stakes before finally switching to some 8-inch steel ones from a hardware store in Flagstaff for $12 and now I can set up in under 10 minutes even on rocky ground, anyone else learn a basic gear lesson way later than they should have?

Lots of people overthink tent stakes, man. It's really not that serious.

Actually, tent stakes ARE kind of important if you've ever had your fly rip out at 2am in a windstorm. A cheap aluminum stake can bend on the first rock you hit, but that doesn't mean you need to geek out on titanium ones either.
