Heard a debate at the trailhead about 'buy it for life' gear

One guy was swearing by his 20-year-old canvas tent, saying new stuff is all junk. Another said modern materials are lighter and just as tough if you buy smart. Made me wonder if we overvalue old-school durability versus current tech. What's your take on the 'buy it for life' idea for camping gear now?

Hold up, you guys are making wool sound like some magic fabric. My mom's old wool sweater shrunk down to doll size in one wash, and it was never the same. Riverp37, that blanket might be "fine" but I bet it's scratchy as heck and full of moth holes by now. Newer blends just work better for actual use.
