Can we talk about the time it took me to properly season my new cast iron skillet over a campfire?

I thought it would be a quick 30-minute job, but getting the oil layer perfect without burning it off took me almost three hours and two failed attempts last weekend at Lake Tahoe.

That campfire seasoning struggle is real. My trick is using a very thin layer of avocado oil and letting the pan cool down a bit before wiping it on. The residual heat does the work without burning the oil. It still takes patience, but it beats starting over multiple times.

Oh man, right? It's like cast iron pan seasoning is this secret art that requires a PhD and a prayer. I just want to cook my eggs without them pretending they're on a slip n slide. Do you think it's actually possible to get it right, or are we all just lying to ourselves?

I switched to grapeseed oil and a 400 degree oven for an hour. That finally gave me an even coat that stuck.
