Bought a cheap 'ultralight' stove that melted my pot handle.

Lost $40 on that thing and a decent pot. It flared up and warped the whole side. Anyone know a good stove that actually works in the wind?

Leave the cheap ones alone if you don't know what you're doing with wind and fuel. I've been using a $15 no-name stove from Amazon for three years now and it's never melted anything because I actually set it up right. You gotta build a little rock wall or use a foil windscreen if you're cooking in a breeze, that's just common sense. People blame the gear when it's really their technique that's bad. PocketRockets are fine but you're paying triple for a name when any basic stove works fine if you treat it with respect.

Yeah that "flared up" part is so familiar. I had a cheap canister stove do the same thing and it scorched a hole right through my windbreaker. I've had good luck with the PocketRocket style ones that have a little built-in windshield.

Used to think they were gimmicky until @jordan653 mentioned the flare-ups.
